Overlooking Mason's Falls, Aeryk Steele was born along the quiet riverbank of Ala Gannha. Aeryk's early years were spent in the eastern corner of Aldenard in the region of Gyr Abania, centralized in the city-state know as Ala Mhigo. His family, being part of the Ala Mhigan Resistance, was no stranger to the constant struggle against the Garlean Empire's occupation. Like many others, the Steele family lived in constant fear of reprisals from the Imperials. Despite the oppressive environment, Aeryk's parents instilled in him a deep sense of pride in his heritage and a burning desire for freedom.

Aeryk's childhood was marked by a sense of constant uncertainty. The highlands of Gyr Abania were a place of both beauty and brutal hardship. His earliest memories were filled with the clanging of metal from his father’s forge and the ever-present sounds of Resistance fighters making their plans, always on guard for any sign of the Garlean Empire. His father, with a heart as steadfast as the iron he worked, was more than just a blacksmith—he was a leader, a symbol of strength and resilience for the local fighters. Aeryk admired him deeply, yearning to one day take up his father’s mantle. But even as a child, he understood that freedom came at a high cost.

Aeryk’s mother, on the other hand, was the steady force that kept the family grounded. While his father shaped weapons of war, his mother wove intricate fabrics, each thread a story of their heritage and past. Aeryk learned from her the importance of patience, resilience, and adaptability. In her hands, even the simplest of cloth could transform into something powerful—something that carried a piece of Ala Mhigo’s soul within it. His younger sister, Aevys, was always more impulsive, quick to act and always at Aeryk's side, a constant source of both joy and worry. Together, they grew up surrounded by hardship but never lacking in love or determination.

When Aeryk was sixteen, the loss of his father was a devastating blow, not only to their family but to the Resistance as a whole. His father had been a man of few words but fierce actions, and his death at the hands of the Garleans left an aching void. It was in the wake of this loss that Aeryk truly understood the weight of leadership. His mother, afraid of losing her children to the same fate, made the painful decision to flee. That night, as they fled the only home they’d ever known, Aeryk became the protector he’d always admired in his father. Leading his mother and sister through the rugged terrain, Aeryk grew up fast, learning the harsh realities of survival, but he also found solace in knowing that his family had made it to safety.

The journey to Limsa Lominsa was not one without peril. Days turned into weeks, and at times it seemed like they might not make it, but Aeryk’s resolve never wavered. When they finally saw the towering cliffs of Limsa Lominsa from a distance, it felt like a beacon of hope, though they knew they still had challenges ahead. Life in the bustling port city was difficult at first. Limsa Lominsa, with its mix of sailors, pirates, and mercenaries, was a far cry from the highlands of Gyr Abania, and many were distrustful of the Steeles, seeing them as outsiders. However, Aeryk refused to let prejudice deter him.

As he worked tirelessly at the Moraby Drydocks, Aeryk's physical strength and natural leadership began to stand out. He became known as a dependable worker, someone who could be counted on to get the job done no matter how grueling or dangerous it was. He also began to form bonds with others in Limsa Lominsa—whether it was the seasoned shipwrights who taught him the ways of the sea or the grizzled veterans who recognized a kindred spirit in him. His mother, a skilled weaver, started a small business making traditional Ala Mhigan textiles, which became popular in the markets of Limsa Lominsa. Aevys, inspired by her brother's resilience, joined the Arcanists' Guild, eager to learn magic and contribute to their new home. Despite his successes, Aeryk never forgot his roots. He remained in contact with the Ala Mhigan Resistance, sending supplies and information whenever he could.

However, his life took another sharp turn when his mother fell ill. Her decline was swift and unrelenting. Aeryk did everything in his power to care for her, but it was clear that nothing could save her. Her death left a hole in his heart, but her final words echoed in his mind—reminding him to protect Aevys, the last of his immediate family. But even in her grief, Aevys was determined to find her own path, one that took her far from Limsa Lominsa and into the unknown waters of the Indigo Deep. Her decision to join the Privateers was a sharp rebuke to Aeryk’s desire to keep the family together, but she was stubborn and defiant, and Aeryk could only watch as she sailed away, vowing to return only when she had forged her own destiny.

These days, Aeryk can typically be found in two places: in the thick of the action at the Moraby Drydocks, helping maintain and repair ships that sail out of Limsa Lominsa, or wandering through Hawkers Alley, where he seeks out rumors, sells supplies, and occasionally crosses paths with old comrades. The docks have always been a place of comfort for him—familiar, gritty, and full of life. But even as he works, a part of him still looks to the horizon, wondering if Aevys will one day return, and if the freedom they fought for so long ago will ever come to fruition. In the meantime, Aeryk remains the steadfast protector—whether on land or at sea.
