Born along the salt lake shores of Loch Seid, Aeryk Steele's early years were spent in the eastern corner of Aldenard in the region of Gyr Abania, centralized in the city-state know as Ala Mhigo. His family, being part of the Ala Mhigan Resistance, was no stranger to the constant struggle against the Garlean Empire's occupation. Like many others, the Steele family lived in constant fear of reprisals from the Imperials. Despite the oppressive environment, Aeryk's parents instilled in him a deep sense of pride in his heritage and a burning desire for freedom.
As Aeryk grew older, the situation in Ala Mhigo worsened. The Garleans tightened their grip on the city-state, and the Resistance's efforts became increasingly desperate. When Aeryk was sixteen, tragedy struck: his father, a skilled blacksmith and leader of The Resistance, was captured and executed by the Garleans. This event was a catalyst for the Steele family. Aeryk's mother, fearing for the safety of her children, made the difficult decision to flee.
The journey from Ala Mhigo to the relative safety of La Noscea was treacherous and fraught with danger. Aeryk, his mother, and his younger sister, Aevys, joined a caravan of refugees under the cover of darkness. The escape route led them through the treacherous Gyr Abanian mountains and the parched expanse of Thanalan. Throughout this perilous journey, Aeryk’s innate leadership and survival skills shone brightly. He hunted for food, scouted for dangers, and provided both physical and moral support to his weary family and fellow refugees.
After weeks of grueling travel, the Steeles finally reached the bustling port city of Limsa Lominsa. With its diverse inhabitants and vibrant atmosphere, it offered a stark contrast to the war-torn land they had left behind. Initially, life as refugees was challenging. The Steeles faced prejudice and struggled to establish themselves in the foreign land. However, Aeryk's determination to provide for his family saw him taking on various labor-intensive jobs at the Moraby Drydocks.
Over time, Aeryk and his family began to rebuild their lives. His mother, a skilled weaver, started a small business making traditional Ala Mhigan textiles, which became popular in the markets of Limsa Lominsa. Aevys, inspired by her brother's resilience, joined the Arcanists' Guild, eager to learn magic and contribute to their new home. Aeryk himself found a calling in the Maelstrom, Limsa Lominsa's naval force. His combat skills, honed during the harsh years in Ala Mhigo, made him a valuable asset. He rose through the ranks, earning a reputation as a fierce and loyal warrior. Despite his successes, Aeryk never forgot his roots. He remained in contact with the Ala Mhigan Resistance, sending supplies and information whenever he could.
New beginnings and hopes of a brighter future were shattered when Aeryk's mother fell deathly ill. Struggling to take her final breaths, she pleaded that Aeryk remain strong and look after Aevys. His headstrong sister, wrought with grief and despair, had her own ideas once they laid their mother to rest. Despite Aeryk's efforts to keep his promise to his late mother, Aevys was determined to take control of her own destiny by joining a group of Privateers and setting sail across the Rhotano Sea.
Feeling angry and alone, Aeryk left La Noscea behind and made his way to Ul'dah. Desperation drove Aeryk to the back alleyways of Ul'dah, where a chance meeting with a handsome fellow was the beginning of his career in sex work. Aeryk caught the attention of many admirers with his muscular figure; a product of years of hard labor. Aeryk's quick wit, charisma, and charm earned him a long list of clients willing to pay for his company; he was the trifecta of benevolence, brains, and brawn. Amidst the darkness, he found camaraderie and a new found family in the shadows of Ul'dah. He made contacts and forged opportunities at multiple venues as a Courtesan. Earning a Sultan's ransom, Aeryk eventually saved up enough gil to open his own nightclub. Over time, this venue became one of Eorzea's premier clubs known for being "The Pulse of Eorzea."
An opportunity for change came unexpectedly when he encountered a member of the Scions of the Seventh Dawn, a group dedicated to protecting Eorzea from the looming threat of the Garlean Empire and other dangers. Recognizing his strength and determination, they offered him a chance to join their ranks. It was a difficult decision, but Aeryk saw it as a way to honor his father’s legacy and fight for a brighter future and better tomorrow.
With the Scions, Aeryk trained rigorously, honing his combat skills and rediscovering his sense of purpose. He found solace in their shared mission to protect Eorzea; a mission that he continues to pursue to this day...
